HumanKind is a nonprofit human services organization that has been serving children and families since 1903. Founded originally as an orphanage, today we serve individuals and families across the life span in the community and in the home. At its heart, we are about building people up; we believe strong individuals and families build stronger communities.
Life can be a challenge for us all. Mental health services provides a critical foundation from which our clients can build their lives around. HumanKind’s caring and experienced team of professionals help people take the first step, which is often the most difficult. Together, we develop a well-defined and customized plan for each person that meets the individual’s needs and goals. Services are provided at HumanKind offices and integrated into home, school and community-based settings, and include individual, family and group counseling, and mental health treatment and evaluation. These services are tailored to meet the developmental and relational needs of the client and their family system.
Our treatment philosophy seeks to support children, teens, and adults as they make their journey towards stability, self-sufficiency, and overcoming life’s many challenges. Our programs offer ethical and professional service provision to ensure quality care is given to all individuals served.
HumanKind’s Adult Services department provides residential community-based Group Homes, Supervised Living apartments and Sponsored Homes across the state. Our services are designed to support adults with developmental disabilities, and all of our sites are licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
